This hand printed card features a Scarlet Ibis bird portrait. I visited the Caroni swamp when I lived in Trinidad as a child. Every evening these bright red birds flock to the mangrove trees and turn the swamp red rather than green.
This bird is printed onto a smooth, white, recycled card using a hand carved wood block in an ombre deep pink and red colour. Even though these are cards as they are hand printed they look beautiful framed.
The card when folded in half is 12.5 cm by 17.8 cm and the image fills the card.
As each card is hand printed there are variations in the colour intensity, darkness and depth of each print. This is what makes each piece unique and is a feature of hand printed art.
